New House-Hacker !

Daouda Hunter
Posted

Hey BP family,

I've been following BP since about 2018 and after all the analysis paralysis I've finally acted and bought my first duplex. I currently am in the middle of renovating it and hoping to get a tenant in by September. I'm a travel nurse so I was wondering if I could get in trouble for renting out my side while i'm away for work despite purchasing it and listing it as my primary residence? I know with the FHA loans they say you must live in it for 10 months to a year I was wondering if anyone knew how strict they are with that and how do they even know? Any other advice for a new house-hacker is accepted as well ! Thanks in advance !

@Daouda Hunter Don’t totally rent it out committing mortgage fraud but consider just locking up your personal valuable belongings in your own bedroom and “hack” the other bedroom to someone in a shared living agreement. They get to enjoy the whole space furnished like maybe a traveling nurse and you get rent and peace of mind knowing your unit is being cared for by a professional.
