Is a Real Estate License necessary?

I have some experience in Property Management and know that for certain states, a real estate license is required to practice (pending the amount of units managed).

From an investing/ownership standpoint, if you choose to manage your own properties, do you need a real estate license? I've done some research and it looks like the answer is 'no,' but I figured I'd come here to confirm with you guys since this is what you do best. Thanks!

PS - I'm primarily concerned with NY - the land of regulations :)

You do not have to have broker license for your own property management but you do have to have if you manage other peoples property.
