Investing from Long Island (Tri-State Area)

First post on here. Excited to join the community. I’m a new investor on Long Island ,NY , been looking into markets about 2-3 hours outside of tri-state for obvious reasons. Would love to hear some strategies of other investors from the area. Where did you get started and what was your decision-making process like?
