House Hacking or SFH For First Rental

Debating whether to buy a duplex to live in after my current lease is up or a SFH rental now and keep renting where I live. I've been told house hacking is a great way to get started, but not necessarily thrilled about being a landlord when my tenant lives right next to me. This would be my first rental, so just looking to get my feet wet.

@Christian Wead I Househacked a 3 family when I got started and we help many Househacker’s buy properties in the greater Boston area today. I still believe househacking a multi-family is the best way to get started in real estate investing. From my experience tenants will be better behaved with you living next to them. If you’re worried about tenants trying to take advantage of you living next to them just tell them you have a business partner and need to run all decisions by them. That also gives you someone to blame when you tell them they can’t get a German Shepard dog.

Best,

Jon
