Why is the barrier to becoming a real estate agent so low?

You’d think with a house being the biggest purchase of your life becoming a realtor would be a little more difficult, especially considering the high commission fees that come with it.

Why is this system so barbaric? They charge 6% commission fees all on a 2 week course? They make more than the actual real estate lawyers on most transactions
