How to figure out appraisal value of renovations?

Hi all, I can't even introduce myself as a new investor as I'm not even there yet. More accurately, I'm in the information gathering phase. Reading about forced appreciation. How do you estimate how much the renovations that you do to a house add to the value of the home? Is there a rule of thumb? Or a good resource? Thanks! Vishana
