How to increase activity on BP Groups?

As many of you are aware, we've got Groups on BP where people can elect to connect with others on a smaller and more personal scale then they can on the public forums.

While in theory, having groups is an important feature, in practice, these groups really aren't being used very much, and there is often little activity on them, despite having large numbers of people on them.

So . . . I turn to you - the community - for your advice. How can we turn up the action on these groups? How can we get more activity?

We're already sending email notifications when new posts are created, and users can follow different discussions in those groups. What more can we do to stimulate activity on them?

Thanks as always for helping to improve BP!

Josh

The biggest issue I see is there is not much of a reason to use the group forums instead of the general forum, as you would normally get more responses in the regular forums.

As for the groups, the best way to get action is if the "moderators" of those groups keep the conversations flowing, keeping the members involved. Otherwise, the members go to the general forums for questions and discussions.
