You don't realize the value in something until it's gone....

It was sad and I was worried it would be some huge overwhelming expense. This place gets so much activity it is not surprising something blew. Sigh of relief to see you back.

Welcome back! I can imagine the stress you were going through.

Have you considered Heroku, or something on the cloud? Although I've had my own issues with cloud services as well...

In either case, nice job turning it around fast, given the scope of the failure.

Aaron Norris - Like a baby.

Carlos F. - My man Homer keeping it real!

Greg B. - Thanks man.

Michael Power - Agreed. It is easy to take things for granted. I know that I took the site for granted until I thought I may have lost everything. There were some really scary moments over the past 2 days. It is horrible what we went through, but I really do hope that our members see the real value of this place and take up any or all of the 6 items I suggested above.

Jeff Sielicky - I was very close to spending many thousands of dollars on one of those data recovery places . . . I'm glad we didn't need to. That said we did lose a lot of money due to being down. Hopefully we can make up the lost revenues somehow.

Matty M - I've definitely looked at Heroku. Part of the problem is that we're running multiple sites here on BiggerPockets. Rails, PHP, etc. We need an environment that supports that. I'm glad that we're back up and will be exploring our options over the next hours/days.

I nearly had a heart attack but after rereading your email I could see you were still in charge. The first thing I though was it's a terrorist attack. My secret plan for such a happening is that when it happens here I resort to CUSS WORD. It works here!

Congratulations on getting it fixed so quickly Josh. Based on the tone of the message I was worried it would be down for a month. Under promise and over deliver.

F Foster - I dropped many a cuss word . . .

Bienes Raices - I'll be honest with you, I truly thought for a good chunk of time that we had lost everything. That was not a good feeling to have. I'm so grateful that we managed to get this thing back . . .

I could tell that the situation was dire, but I wasn't surprised that you found a way to get the site back up quickly. Thanks for keeping people informed--so many sites go down for a day or two and the webmaster never lets people know what is going on.

Bienes Raices - Many websites think that by pretending there isn't a problem that people won't notice. You guys clearly saw that something was wrong. Our job is to keep you informed. Communication is key in times of crisis.

This reminds me of a John McCain quote when he was on Jay Leno, just after he lost the 2008 presidential election. Leno asked if he had trouble sleeping. McCain said he "slept like a baby...he woke up every hour crying!!!"

I can imagine the feeling you had wondering if you had lost it for good. I'm glad you're back!

Thanks Tod Radford. It wasn't a good feeling.
