Question about contractors

I’m a newbie investor and I’m finding that my mental hang up with the idea of acquiring an under market value property is that it will more than likely require some work/tlc/rehabbing.

On BP there is a resource to locate contractors for various types of jobs (electrical, plumbing, windows, HVAC, etc).

When scoping out/evaluating a property is it best to find a general contractor? Or after a home inspection locate the various subcontractors (not even sure if I’m saying that right)?

I imagine that after getting some experience under my belt, I’ll learn how to identify many of the things that would need repair, but as a newbie, what’s the general consensus for handling how to determine the types of repairs that need to take place in a property?

Thank you
