My partner and I are thinking of purchasing some land in order to use it as collateral to purchase rental property. What do you think? Any ideas? Thank you.

If you have bad credit the question becomes why?  If you have credit card debt pay that off before doing anything because it will be a guaranteed return that is probably higher than what you can get in RE.  Also people usually won't take vacant land as collateral for a loan.
