Selling property in Louisiana

Posted

Hello,

I reside in California. Just over a year ago I bought 3 properties in Bossier City, Louisiana. I then put them in a Louisiana LLC. I would like to sell one of the properties and I'm wondering if it's better to deed the property back to my name before selling or sell it in the LLC then transfer the money to myself. The house has only appreciated about $5000, so I'm not worried about capital gains. I'm worried about the fact that I bought the house with money from an inheritance, then put the house in an LLC, so I don't want to be taxed on the money I inherited as it comes back to me. I'm afraid if I sell it in the LLC the $200,000 will be taxed as it goes back into my name.

Thank you for your advice.
