Does my CPA need to be local?

Hello BP!

I recently bought a fixer duplex in the Dallas area (Arlington, to be exact) and I live in CA. I’m looking to connect with a CPA and would like to know if there’s a benefit to working with someone in Dallas vs one near me. Thanks in advance for the input!

Hi Veronica,

I would recommend having a CPA in CA as you have a duplex in the Bay area and California taxes are unique and can get a bit complex. Texas doesn't have a state income tax so the new duplex will only show up on your federal and CA return.

It really comes down to who can fulfill your needs and you're confident in.
