No rental license, tenant will not leave

Arlene Butler
Posted

Hello all! I’m working with a homeowner right now who is looking to sell but the tenants are giving them a hard time. They have no rental license and have been on a verbal agreement for rent. Now the homeowner is stuck because they’ve tried to evict them and they also agreed to leave June 15. So far they have not left, nor paid rent in 3 months. Does anyone have advice on how they can handle this? Homeowner is desperate to sell but I’ve never come across this situation where there’s no lease in place. Just looking to see what their options are.

Thanks in advance.

What happened with the eviction?  They should be able to evict them for non-payment.

They said they’ve tried but the courts wouldn’t honor it because they didn’t have a rental license

they should be able to evict them as squatters then.  Have them consult an eviction attorney.
