Someone STOLE my "For Rent" sign!!!

Someone stole my "For Rent" sign with a "Take One" box from the front yard of my rental property. Who does that!?! Anyone else had this experience?

I asked the neighbor if she saw anything. Turns out she did see it happen and gave me a description of the vehicle, but I don't think that it is worth pursuing. Had to go get another one. :-(

Well ... it did say "take one" ;)

We use to have this happen quite frequently in September - October when the students were first back at university and the course-load not yet heavy enough to curb the imbibed outings.

A scumbag, that's who.  You said you got another one.  Maybe write your phone number or some other identifier on it in permanent marker.

Ha ha @Roy N.  .  Unfortunately it was a work vehicle, but I haven't been able to find out what company. It makes it worse that it wasn't kids, and happened in the middle of the day!

@Dawn Anastasi  I did have my info on the sign in permanent marker but not on the box. This time I did!

I've had it happen, too.  But found it a few blocks away, with assistance from neighborhood kids.

It happens all the time here in Philly!

I'd try to do some etching or engraving. Permanent marker isn't too hard to get off or paint over.

I hate it when I hear things like this, I agree with Chris, definitely look at investing in some way to engrave your contact info on there.

Yes, it happens.  I usually put my sign on cross st.,  but not directly in front of the property.  Interested parties must call to get address, which cuts down on those just passing time..

Yes, it is annoying, especially since it cost me almost $30 to replace and an hour of my time. I didn't factor that into turnover costs.

I like using the "Take One" box because it really cuts down on the amount of phone calls I have to take to describe the property over and over. Also, this property is on a main street, so most of the interest comes from the sign.

This is the second sign I've had stolen. I never would have thought this would be a problem. Oh well...live and learn!

Most dollar stores have for rent signs for $1-5.  I usually put one near the street using a stake and then tape one on the inside of a window in the event it gets taken.  I usually include the phone number and rental amount.

Many times I won't bother with a sign because then people will immediately know it is vacant and might try and steal the copper or HVAC.
