Tenants window broken glass

Hi my tenant showed me a window that the glass broke and he wants me to replace the window.

My question is, he claims it's an plf window and it just broke,  they don't know how it just broke. Is it my responsibility to pay for it or is it the tenants?

@Sami Gren I’m a little different than the others and I absolutely would charge the tenant. My leases are clear that tenants are responsible for the unit and any damages that occur. We also have itemized list of what costs are for many of the items. With that said, I do set the tenant up on a payment plan to pay back the cost of the window. I believe the key to managing is consistency and if you give the nice tenant a break are you also giving the crappy tenant a break? If not, the strategy is flawed!

What if the tenant had an ex-boyfriend that came over and kicked in the door and busted a window out? Would you charge the tenant or would you pay for the fixes? I’ve had this happen more than once.

Do you charge your tenants for clogged sink drains if you find it was due to grease or do you pay? Clogged toilets when you pull out feminine products or paper towels?

Decide how you want to handle those type of things and be consistent in everything you do managing your properties.
