Setting Up Your LLC in foreign state

Joshua Flamm
Posted

Long and short. I live in Florida. I am buying an STR in Tennessee. My CPA strongly suggested that I set up my LLC in the Tennessee for tax purposes. It has proven to be more difficult to set up than expected mainly because of having to use a third party company for a physical business address

1. Is it necessary to setup your LLC in state you are actually operating in. Its much easier for me to setup future properties using my home state of Florida

2. How in the heck do I get my mail for the Tennessee sent to me? I think I need to set up a PO box??

Its actually pretty easy.

Search for a "Registered Agent" in Tennessee.  You can hire them to be your physical address and collect your mail.  Some of them simply forward your mail to you.  Others open and scan and then email you a copy of any mail you get.  The cost is roughly. $150 per year for these services.
