A newbie investor in Kansas City...just want to introduce myself!
Hey everyone, my name is Andrew Merriman and I live in the Kansas City area and I'm very excited to join BiggerPockets! I just turned 38 years old (May 21) and I'm married to my best friend now for 19 years. To top it off we have 5 children with the youngest 2 being adopted. I truly have a blessed life! Currently I am working for the Zurich Services Corporation as a Risk Manager. All of my customers are construction related since my background has been in the construction industry.
I joined the Air Force as an apprentice carpenter and became a superintendent within 5 years. I finished my bachelor’s degree in business from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, Illinois and took my first job out of college with Hunt Construction Group as a field engineer on the $250 million Kansas City Royals baseball stadium project. I've worked in construction quality management with the Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Leavenworth, KS building military vertical construction projects and also with JE Dunn Construction on large scale commercial projects. Besides my secular job I am a also the Pastor of the Truth Church in Edgerton, KS.
I have a limited background in real estate investing but I have bought 3 single family homes in my life and one of those I had a renter for a couple years before selling for a profit. My ultimate goal would be to replace my W-2 income so I can pastor full time and to also prepare for retirement from the ministry so I won’t be limited financially from helping other churches, missions, etc.
I have an interest in a couple areas of real estate. First I am drawn to "Lease Option" investing and secondly "Buy & Hold".
I joined BiggerPockets from a recommendation from www.olddawgsreinetwork.com. This is a great website/blog/podcast that has helped in my investing education!
Ok…that was quite a bit about myself but I thought it would be helpful for others to get to know me. Now I'm really look forward to getting to know all of you!
Bessings!
