How to improve dumps in a nice neighborhood?

Hello, brand new to Bigger Pockets...

Just inherited the responsibility of managing nine properties in a nice neighborhood. Excited about it! However, they're not in the best shape because they haven't been updated much over the years. The property taxes are eating into the bottom line of rent income. What kind of updates can I inexpensively make to the properties in order to raise the rent and increase my margins?

Look at what the other rentals look like in that area that are getting the higher rent amount and match the quality or your rehab to theirs in order to get the same rent.

Thank you Antoine,

Do you have any advice for how to get a look inside those properties? Or how to find out when and where all the new open houses in the neighborhood will be so I can visit and assess?
