Purchasing a R.E.O Home

Viewed a home today in foreclosure. Asking price is about $47,000.00 more then I want to pay due to repairs needed. Anyone have experience with these type of transactions? How motivated are these banks to sell? House went on the market yesterday. Should I bid or hold off for a while?
