Any good advice on Miami?

We are visiting Miami in mid March. Trip will be for both pleasure and to look into a couple investment opportunities. We have been to Hollywood, Florida, but never to Miami. This leads to a couple questions:

1. Is Miami kid friendly for the most part? Any areas we want to avoid?

2. Any good water front restaurant recommendations from the BP Community?
