How to bring things up to code

Hey BP community! Had a quick question for you this afternoon. How would i go about learning all the requirements and code for real estate in my area? I primarily want to know how big certain dimensions of the house have to be (i.e. Closet, how big a door has to be). I know I will learn this throughout my deals but I would love to do some homework on it before hand. Thank you!

Buy a copy of the 2015 IRC and crack it open. Then call your local building department and ask if there is anything they require in excess of the 2015 IRC. (Local municipalities can be more strict, but not less strict, than the IRC)
