In over my head.. Lol
Hey guys,
I'm looking at purchasing a new home, I have little to no experience rehabbing (Not really a handyman either, but I'm keen to learn). I've done a bit of painting and that's about it.
Is it wise to purchase a distressed house and do a BRRRR strategy?
Any of you guys out there did a rehab for your first home and learnt on the job?
Thanks
Storm

Welcome to BP
My first home was a total gut rehab. But I wasn't afraid of learning what I didn't know. I had always been good with tools and learned trades quickly. Most of the stuff I did myself, but I subbed out things I couldn't handle. It was the best learning experience, but extremely tiring.
I had never installed hardwood flooring, and I put in 1200 sqft alone.
I had never done any framing, and I framed out my bathroom.
I had never tiled, tiled my bathroom and foyer floor.
I had never done finish carpentry, and I trimmed the entire house out, crown moulding and everything.
I never hung cabinets, I did that too.
A lot of the stuff I learned just by watching videos online. I am also lucky to have friends in every trade who would help give me pointers. And worst case scenario, take over a job I couldn't handle alone.
Here is one before and after of my first house:
It is possible to learn, and do a good job too. I did it. Some projects took me a lot of trial and error, and long days. But Im glad I tackled it. Wish you the best of luck moving forward.
