First step of a newbie from metro Detroit

Hello All:

I joined BP a while ago, and I have been looking at possible properties in metro Detroit. I glimpsed the beginner guide and tried to purchase the first property for an investment. Since I lost bids many times, I think what I have been doing might not a good idea. I am wondering how should I start.

Is there any suggestions for me? Please advise!! Any help would be very appreciated.
