Post: Investing from overseas

Hello all!

I'm currently in the USAF serving an overseas assignment. My wife and I are hoping to make our first investment purchase this year with the intention of renting it out for extra income. We've looked around a bit but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on which markets to look at or where other people are seeing value. As well, if anyone has a turnkey they would recommend, or want to share any positive or negative experiences, we would appreciate that tremendously. Thanks in advanced and feel free to reach out directly with any questions or comments!

PlumbRite. Ask for Matt. He's come out to my house a few times. Pricing is competitive and he won't give you the run around. Honest guy that does great work at a fair price

@Gary Carver So that was my plan. Exactly that. I'm looking for land I can hang onto until google/amazon/facebook/etc decide to set up shop in Detroit and all of a sudden land becomes valuable and in demand.

Are their specific areas you would suggest looking in?

Hello all,

I'm active duty Air Force but likely separating at the end of the year and moving back home (woohoo!) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions in the way of property management companies. My biggest concern is screening tenants and not winding up with people who are going to destroy the house. If anyone has any recommendations, or suggestions in general, feel free to comment or message me directly. Thanks!

@Jamiel Strickland

Thanks for the insight! What you're saying is what I've been seeing. The prices for downtown are coming up quick and I know there's a lot going on with GM but rumor is new factories and jobs are coming to the area so I'll definitely keep my eyes open. How far out from downtown d you think the revitalization will spread?

@David Stevoff

If the neighbor doesn't buy the lot do you know where it gets listed, or is it auctioned? I'd be curious to know what happens if the neighbor turns it down.

I've been considering buying a plot of land in Detroit for some time now. The city seems to be revitalizing and I'd like to catch prices on their way up and not miss a potential opportunity. As a new investor with zero experience, I'm wondering what other investors (especially local ones) think about it. Any and all feedback is welcome!

@Karl B. Finding people with similar hours is awesome advise! That's exactly what I'm looking for! The kind of thing that could make your life a nightmare but you'd never think of it until you're living it.

Hello Everyone,

I'm a brand new, first time, terrified and excited investor! I'm currently in the military but am looking to transition out in the near future. With that, my wife and I are looking to house hack. I figure it's a great way to reduce housing costs and get an idea of what being a landlord is like, should we continue to pursue that in the future. My biggest question is: what kind of things should we look for that a book won't tell you. What are those things that you wish you knew ahead of time. All advise is welcome and appreciated. Please feel free to reach out with any questions for me. Thanks!
