I just came across and I will actually most likely be visiting Detroit around that time. Well sorta around that time...heading in on Monday most likely. I am looking to make some connections down there and invest. If I am in the area in the time you guys are meeting, I'd like to join if possible.

@Jamiel Strickland I take it you are investing in real estate in Detroit? Do you know of a good agent for acquiring properties?

I know this thread is kinda old, but it seems like a good place to ask since there are a few real estate investors responding. I am looking for buy and hold rehabs in Detroit...what neighborhoods would you you guys suggest?

Hi Elliott...that's not too far from me at all. I will definitely try to make it. How will I find you guys in there?

Great post and based on my research I think that Detroit is definitely making a comeback. I don't think it will happen overnight, but there is a lot of stuff in the pipeline for 2019 and the mayor seems to be on the right track...keeping corruption at bay. Detroit's future looks bright.

Can anyone recommend a good real estate agent in the Detroit area that knows about buy and hold...which is what I want to get into.

I also live in Toronto and wanted to invest in some buy and hold, but Toronto is not viable. I think the Canadian market is way to speculative. Hamilton is supposed to be new up and coming. I also heard that Montreal will take the overflow of foreign investors that no longer want to invest in Toronto or Vancouver...due to new tax laws or the overpriced market...take your pick. Peterborough is said to have 0% vacancy...which looks pretty appealing, but the market has started to pick up there as well and it's no longer that cheap.

I have already started looking into the US and I think the opportunity to cash flow there is much greater than here.

@lex I have just started to look into Pittsburgh and like you said, it looks good. The properties are very cheap and tax is really low.

This will also be my first purchase and like you, am a little scared, but not to worry... You did your research, you'll be good.

Please let me know what you find out there...I'd be really interested in hearing.

Good luck!

@Lex Phumirat Pittsburgh is also on my radar. I have been doing some research and a lot of experts recommend Pittsburgh. I currently live in Toronto, Canada and the market here is out of control...no way I can buy and hold here.

Have you made any progress as to where to look? What area?

@Justin H. Did you end up buying any property in Peterborough and if so, where? I'm also looking over there... I hear that it's great since vacancy is very low.

@Matthew Davis I have been using the crimereports site, but I don't find it accurate. For example, I have put in Hamilton and according to the site there is only one part of Hamilton that has crime and no crime anywhere else, but that hardly seems feasible.
