@Stephen Kolozsi Congratulations and Best of Luck!

I agree with the people before me. One of the best ways to get your feet wet in this business (from my experience) is: identifying top producing brokers in your brokerage or geographic area and asking them to have coffee and/or to work their open houses. Secondly when you're not working 2-4 open houses a weekend (yes that's a must when getting started) and having the 30-60 minute coffee appointment, focus on establishing accountability partners (brokers who have also started recently or in a similar groove as you), listen to podcasts or read books, and work establishing good habits early and developing a good mindset.

Podcasts I recommend: BP, Jere Metcalf, Keeping It Real, Profits Over Wages to name a few.

Hi Ryan,

I highly recommend Josi Van Horn out of Beacon Sotheby's in Holland, Michigan. Very knowledgeable and a great resource. I'm in the process of getting my license in Indiana and would love to be a resource if you're looking there, I grew up in the LaPorte area and now live in Valparaiso. Hope this info can serve you well. Good Luck!

Hi Jay,

I agree with Alex, Woytek, Brie. Your Real Estate Broker should be working in your best interest the entire time and should be able to give you a Comparable Market Analysis (CMA) prior to putting an offer in, at the very least. Finding a local agent is helpful for sure but with today's technology, a broker who specializes in Chicago should be able to work nearly every neighborhood and get help from some colleagues if they are not super familiar with a certain area.

I'm a real estate broker in Chicago and I'm not saying you need another agent because I want you to choose me, but before purchasing you should interview other brokers to find one that best fits your goals, needs, and wants. One last thing, your broker should be able to draft, submit, and follow up on any offers you approve. Best of luck.

Any recommendations on what first few steps to take when starting a property management company. Having considered this in the past, I’m now in the position to do this and appeciate any advice. Hopefully others who’ve thought this can learn from the advice given.

@Ben Payano what would you rent it for? I know some people down there and would love to help you get it rented at a fair rate. Also, no this isn’t a scam, just trying to help a BP brother out.

@Ben Israel, depending on your towns/cities ordinances, attractions and amenities. If you do it, prepare a master list of FFE, Amenities inside the unit, and other items you have to stock or purchase for the property. This will make your operation run much more smoothly from a logistics standpoint, also take pictures of how you want the presentation to be for when guests check in and out. You’ll make your housekeeper and maintenance crew more efficient and happy.
