@Scott Mac I really like how you toned down the white windows. That software you use to do that is awesome! What did you use to layer the photo?

@Beth Davidson those are good suggestions. Painting ceilings would really brighten it up.

So I would nix the white furniture. That is just asking for trouble. Don't add to the stress.

You didn't say where your place is but it must be keeping in line with the area. Woods, mountains, lake front etc.

Check out this site - https://rainonatinroof.com/dec...

They have some ideas about color choices etc for knotty pine interiors.

You could also double down on the wood with log furniture (beds). Leather couches would look nice with the wood.

Also, I don't like the idea of black fixtures. Actually brass fixtures are making a big comeback...

Thanks for the suggestions and the link. The house is on water in northern Michigan. I dont have enough service to open the link but will try again when I get home.

We bought a cottage that has Knotty pine tongue and groove car siding on every wall and ceiling in the entire house. We are really struggling with finding flooring and furniture colors that look nice and don't clash. We would love some design insights. We really like the look of white or off white furniture but are concerned about staining in an STR. All items in the photos came with the house and will removed. Fixtures are being replaced with black. Thank you

Quote from @Michael Baum:

+1 with @John Underwoods recommendation. Our sleeper sofa is a La-Z-Boy and it has held up just fine since we bought it.

Either way, buy a USA made piece of furniture. You will get more mileage out of it for sure.

Also, you can find a ton of USA made furniture on Craigslist, Offer UP and FB marketplace for pennies on the dollar.

Our sleeper sofa was $200. It was essentially brand new. Never slept on. It sat in an office above a garage. That sofa would have been over $2000 new.

Here is a sofa that is close to ours - https://www.wayfair.com/furnit...

That is $2099, we got ours for 10% of that price.

It depends on how often we choose to use it personally during peak season. This is my first time doing a short term rental so Im not totally sure exactly where we will land.

I am looking to furnish a lakeside STR in northern Michigan and was curious if anyone has recommendations on pull out sleeper sofas or any other sit/sleep options. I'm curious about pros and cons of different upholstery options and want to make sure whatever we get sleeps comfortably. Any brand or website suggestions would be excellent. Thanks!

Investment Info:

Single-family residence buy & hold investment in Springfield.

Purchase price: $110,000
Cash invested: $20,000

We purchased this waterfront property to use as a family cottage and an STR. The property was on the MLS for 130 days. The owner spoke Polish with very limited English. He was very challenging to deal with. The seller had been under contract with two previous buyers and fell out of contract due to non compliance. We remained patient and saw the process through. We paid 35K under market value. We intend to add an additional master suite to increase square footage and ROI as a STR.
