I wish! My fiance flat out won't even consider the idea. I'll just have to find a work-around!

Good advice! I'm actually attending an Investor Summit this evening put on by a local real estate team. I'm sure it will be insightful!

@Amber Gonion 100% agreed. As an actuary and someone who’s job it is to assess risk and analyze every aspect of it, I think I definitely have the upper hand when it comes to handling the financial analysis/details of potential investments. I’m a quick learner, but I just need to be coached. Given the tools, I usually take off pretty quickly.

Hey Kevin! Congrats on the offer. I'm also new to the real estate world -- reading this thread was awesome! Keep us updated on how things are going! I'd be curious to see what your experience has been like with your first property. I'm looking to get into Multi-Family properties as my focus.

@Alyssa Strom Exactly! My fiancé views this as a side hobby, so he doesn’t want our “lifestyle” to get wrapped into it, despite the great benefits of a house hack situation. It just means more cash and hard work on my end, but I’m not too beat down about it.

@Bruce Runn I wish that was the was route I could take, but my fiancé is tired of living with other tenants next to us haha. My W-2 produces a good amount of income, so I’m confident there’s another way to get started.

@Alyssa Strom Unfortunately my fiancé was born with a bad case of stubbornness, so I unfortunately will not be able to consider house hacking as my first buy.

@Kenneth Mooney Hey there! Ideally I would like to invest in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, but currently initial valuations look to be a little high in this area for the amount of cash I’ll have on hand next year.

Hello BiggerPockets!

My name is Anthony Vargas. I am a 25 year old young professional, living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area and I am looking to dip my hand into the Real Estate word.

I currently work a W-2 job as a full-time actuary in my firm’s Enterprise Risk Management Department, mainly working with our Derivative Hedging Implementation Team to eliminate equity and interest rate risk. While this career path has been exciting, I do not plan on being an actuary forever and am looking to Real Estate to eventually become my main venture and source of income.

I will be purchasing my first home with my fiancé in Spring 2020, but aim to have enough cash to consider a rental property purchase by late 2020 or early 2021.

My primary goal at the moment is to network, learn as much as I can, and equip myself with the skills needed to be successful in the real estate world. Looking forward to interacting with you all and joining you in this journey!
