@Sunil Garg you need to get only one out so you can start renovating one unit and then when ready offer it to some of the existing renters. If they take it you have the next one to renovate and so on...
For the first one I don’t know how efficient it could be if you take it for you personally for the first year or so and then rent it out. I’ve heard it’s a way to get people out but It’s always complicated :/

@Karl Rivest Harnois for those areas it’ll be hard to find something cheap. Maybe something worth renovating to gain more value... but I never analyzed that. My guess would be to try to expand you areas where properties will be less expansive and might make your numbers work... Curious to see what others have to say

I agree with Jason, start by a preliminary study with an architect directly. They’ll be able to plan a general project in order to analyze where you’re going with the project and later on the project can be completed by the same firm and you could integrate a designer if needed.

In my experience, if you have both poured and stone it's usually when you need to dig the basement to have more height because the stone foundation doesn't go too deep. Simply put, the poured concrete is added underneath the stone to get the extra height. These type of work should be specified by engineers, so if done properly according to the plans you shouldn't have to worry. Try to get the plans or who did the job to make sure the work is well made. Needless to say, if the job is not properly done or not specified by an engineer there's all kinds of problems that you can have :)

Well for sure if you don’t think that you have the knowledge to properly do the Remodel you need an external help and that will save you problems. But that external help can go from the contractor a designer or an architect... but for sure involve someone that has done this before and is aware of how things work... this will be end up being knowledge for you for the next project and you’ll have a better idea for what you want to do who you really need.
