Hello BP community,

I am looking for advice on anyone who as bought and rented out rooms within their house on how the overall experience went while you/significant other lived there as well.

I live in a single family home in a suburb of Columbus, OH called Victorian Village.

More specifically, what went well and what did you look for when screening tenants to live in your home. I am actively looking for tenants and have posted ads on craigslist and other social media sites. Did you engage an attorney to compile a lease application for the prospective renters?

Any insight or areas to be made aware of would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Ben

@Ethan Cooke Really appreciate the articles you sent me. Helpful examples on how to be a super-host and not reinvent the wheel here.

It seems that the keypad electronic lock is the best way to go so I do not have to manage turning over the keys so much.

@Myka Artis Thank you for the advice on the keypad lock. I will pursue that route for my main entrance.

Hello!

My name is Ben Alesi and I recently bought a single family home in Victorian Village in Columbus, OH. I am interested in learning more about certain experiences with Airbnb and any advice regarding the initial setup, how to maintain the constant turnover, and any other learnings from "Airbnbing" your primary residence.

Thank you!

Hello! I am in contract on a single family home in Victorian Village and wanted to see if anyone has worked with an architect in the Columbus area. I am trying to compile some sketches that I can show to the Victorian Village Commission. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

@Robert Ellis great job and I love GV! Looking to buy there myself. The renovations you have made look great. Wish you the best on your next project.

Hello!

I wanted to gather advice and general information on getting a real estate license. Do you think that it is needed/encouraged to become a real estate investor? I am curious on what you all think about becoming an agent while actively looking for investments.

Thank you!

Hello BiggerPockets community!

My name is Ben Alesi and I am a recent graduate of Ohio State University. I graduated from the Fisher College of Business with a B.S. in Corporate Finance. I currently work for Cardinal Health out in the Bay Area and am looking to pursue Real Estate investing.

I actually stumbled upon BiggerPockets looking to find some avenue to begin learning more about real estate investing and it has been a tremendous resource!

Outside of work, I really enjoy travelling to new places. In 2016, I was fortunate enough to travel to 5 different countries with my best friend and it was a great experience. I look forward to planning another trip this year outside the US. Open to recommendations!

Looking forward to getting more involved on the site and continuing to learn from all the successful people contributing on this forum.
