@Henry Clark I think getting over the trust factor is the biggest barrier to clear first. This sounds like the modern day REI version of the Nigerian prince scheme.

I’d rather throw money at a Columbus turnkey player than in a foreign market with unfamiliar terms of recourse.

Hey Allan, you’re not wrong whatsoever. As explained in a previous reply, my intention with the questions I posted was since it is known in the past few years there’s been an increase in real estate investing in Lisbon by US investors I wanted to know if the ones who do invest here were on this platform.

No fishy or scam business on this side.

Thank you for your answer.

Short answer - yes you can but posting on BP or other real estate websites isn't the best way to find investors for your deals. I have found my private investors by the following - personal friends, local meetups, real estate conferences. Just like with any lead, you have to nuture it. People who invest with me do so because they have generally known me for years.

You're right Jake, that's 100% the most sound and trustworthy of doing any business, not just REI. My question was about how to overcome that lack of knowledge or network in a sense.

We invest in Belize and are looking at Italy.

The problem with someone from the U.S. investing overseas:

1.  Totally new set of due diligence.  My brother looked at about 50 houses and they all had some form of lack of permitting, back taxes, no legal road access, etc.

2.  New set of financing considerations

3.  New set of taxation laws to understand.

4.  If a person is already investing in the U.S. and then invests overseas they dilute their cross leveraging potential.  Here I can use one property to leverage another property and then the next property.  Banks or financial groups won’t do that outside their market.

What you offer is gold. But you will need to help an investor get past the above issues to make headway.  Individuals wanting a Lifestyle change will be a greater market for your services than an Investor.

Going to Spain this fall, realize it’s not Portugal.  My sister in law has Portuguese heritage.  Can’t wait for the tapas and paella.

Completely true, couldn’t agree more. The reason behind my question was due to the influx of several foreign citizens specifically from the US, I know there exists heavy investment from key players originating from the US.

I would guess there are less than 10 people on BiggerPockets who would invest overseas with someone.

Thank you for the reply. Did strike me a bit like that too!

Hello everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Bernardo Cunha. I’m a portuguese handyman with specific knowledge in house renovations with skills such as plumbing and electricity covered as well.

I signed up to this website as per recommended from an US investor I met last year.

Currently beginning my REI journey with my primary focus being on the BRRR method. There exist several distressed apartments buildings in downtown Lisbon (1-6 units) from 300-500k needing refurbishment with an average refurbishment cost of 20-30k max per building. (Being that most apartment building in downtown lisbon are small and only need refurbishment on the inside no structural repairs needed).

Which offer incredible yields both on a rental basis or from a fix & flip perspective.

In my specific case I don’t have the required funds available to enter on my own and therefore am looking for seasoned investors who would be willing to enter on a partnership or joint venture to invest (all legal, with written contracts obviously).

I have seen people with no money but the right skills and connections for the job be successful at it. I have the general skills required to refurbish properties while keeping the costs controlled since I have a hands on approach and spend most of the time doing it myself.

Are investors here more interested in investing nationwide or also open to investing abroad? In Europe. (Lisbon - Portugal specifically)

Also, for those who are not interested in investing in smaller projects or BRRR methods and are more keen to invest anywhere from 1-50 Million, in ready projects like hotels, or bigger apartment units in Lisbon. I have a few connections in regards to off-deal properties not listed online.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on these subjects.

Best regards,
Bernardo Cunha.

Hello everyone, I am a handyman focused on property renovations. I like to renovate property with my skills and hands on experience so I can track the progress of refurbishing and minimize delays to the max by keeping an organized process and focusing on detail and quality.

Knowledge on plumbing, electricity, flooring etc.

Currently looking for funding from private investors that are interested in investing abroad and upon writing contracts are interested in starting a professional relationship and investing in BRRR multi-family / apartment building properties on a 50-50 basis in Lisbon - Portugal.
