I'm also looking in Portland. I've been using Redfin's Data Center for macro data. The "Migration" map shows where people are moving. The greatest "outbound" migration is to Seattle, Las Vegas, and LA. This tells me that people aren't moving for cheaper rent (Las Vegas aside). Anecdotally, I've had three friends move from SF to Portland, which means California money will be coming up to the rental market for month-long rentals - think people, who have WFH jobs in the $150 K+ salary range. I WISH I had an Airbnb joint right now I could market for Covid WFH with extra desks and super reliable internet.

Wow! Systems engineer and business wonk. Interested in house hacks and buy-and-holds. Guided by a quixotic vision to create sustainable and respectable housing for all.

@Steve Morris Thank you! That is a good interface. It popped right up. Last night, I spent an hour or so typing up a letter I'd like to send them. I assume at some point, I'll have to do an appraisal or work with an agent to know what is fair market value. This feels like an odd approach, but it also feels like it could be fruitful if something happens to shake loose. I've been walking the neighborhood to see if there are other properties that feel like they could work. Thank you again for your help!

Thank you @Austin Andrews. Great advice. Noted that my wife can be a strategic motivator!

Thank you, as well, @Steve Morris. I happen to be in Portland, as well! I have one address in NW in mind already. It hasn't been well kept, but it's in a fantastic location.

Update: Just found it on Multnomah Public Access! Genius. Kind of creepy. I also found my own landlord, but she's a bit more incognito by concealing her identity under an LLC.

Nice to almost meet you!

My name is Blair from Portland, Oregon. I am new to investing. I've got to admit it's intimidating and humbling to be among all of you knowledgeable people. Also, I am newly married and expecting.

Which MEANS...we are getting ready to plunk down that change on our FIRST property! Some folks ask me whether we are buying a home or making an investment. I don't see why we can't do both. We seem to be on the same page about house hacking, which seems like a great way to build wealth.

Additionally, I'm interested in providing respectable and sustainable housing for our community. After all, we all inhabit this blue spaceship, right?

Looking forward to learning and sharing with all of you.

Are there reliable, non-scammy resources (e.g., public records or websites) we can use to find contact information for multiplex owners?

For context, I am newly married and we are expecting! We are NEARLY debt free from student debt and almost ready to make our first move. Our ideal home is a house-hack. I have found several properties in my neighborhood I love, but they are currently not on the market. I would love to (respectfully) approach the owners to see if they would be interested in selling. Follow-on questions would be whether this is a smart move? Could this be seen as unwanted solicitation?

(Also, I am new to BP. Please let me know if I've posted something against the cultural grain.)

Thank you!

Hi Taylor! I'm also new to the real estate investor community. HOWEVER, I consider myself more experienced with personal finances.

While he can be controversial, Dave Ramsey helped me pay down $227 K in personal debt (mostly student loans). So, this isn't my advice, this is his advice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH4voiVbCN8

Hope this is helpful!
