Oh, definitely.  They have  tons of content.  The content I'm creating is hopefully keyword targeted to my local area and so it will rank higher than my local competition.  It will not outrank the big national sites.

As for the IDX, I'm not sure how it's configured. I bet you can change display settings and whatnot.  It may be a great tool for more local ranking.  I honestly don't know.  I suspect it isn't, but I could be wrong.  If you decide to include one, I'd love to see your results, so please keep this thread updated as your site comes together and your ranking results come in.

@Bryan Gamble and @Michael Jobe, yes, it is a WordPress theme that I've customized and done a few custom coding modifications to.

Thanks for the compliments, Michael.  The video was shot in my living room believe it or not.  I've been doing photo/video work for the last few years before getting into RE, so I shot and edited it all myself.  I also used to code websites, so I set the site up myself.  I used to hand code HTML, but WordPress is a lot easier and more efficient (while still requiring a bit of technical know-how).

And Bryan, you're right, the main purpose of my page will be a squeeze and content page. I mostly want email signups from this site. I'm not too concerned about people being able to search the MLS from my website because they can get that anywhere else (Zillow, Trulia, etc.). I'd rather not clutter up my site with listings that aren't mine. I'll feature my listings on it, of course. But the main purpose is to fill it with content so that it's bringing in SEO traffic and providing more value to the reader.

IDX plugins don't help you rank any better in Google, as far as I know.  The main problem I see with my local competition is that all they have is the IDX and some basic info about themselves.  There's no meat to the site to help Google find them.  So that's my plan of attack to outrank them.

@Sonya Stovall, yep, I've started my site with Antonio Coleman's articles in mind.  Bailey Premium Properties

I still need 7-10 content pages, the "Epic-Wow" content, and blog posts.  I'm working these things into my workload as I'm getting the rest of my business going.  (This is my third month as a Realtor.)

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the progress so far.  Of course, I'm not ranking yet, but I expect to within the year as long as I keep adding content.

@BryanGamble, WordPress is a pretty good option. Expect to look up some tutorials, but with a little dedication you can make a really good one. Mine is a WordPress site. There are widgets you can get for almost anything, including (I think) MLS listings.

@Karl Krentzel, I downloaded your pre-listing presentation packet, and have incorporated it into my own.  Love the content, man.  Great stuff.

And I can't believe how much there is on the Mike FerryFerry page.  Is gonna take a year to get through all that content.  But it's great information.  I've already started digging into it.

Thanks, @David Hunter .  That's a great tip.  Good psychology trick.

@David Hunter the buyer's guide is a great idea. I'll try and get that together beforehand. Our MLS does allow me to set them up on an email alert, so I'll be sure to mention that. I've set a few of those up before, so I know its a great resource.

Thanks, @Deshan Kennedy and @Jason Mak .  I'll have plenty of cards for sure.

I'm also going to knock doors around the neighborhood to drum up some interest for the open house.  Of course I'll ask if they know anybody looking to move to the neighborhood, and also when they're planning on moving. Hopefully, that will get a handful of leads in itself.

Thanks for the response everyone.

I'm helping another agent in my office with an open house this Sunday.  This will be my first open house, so I was just wondering if anybody had advice for me.  I'll mostly be helping out and building buyers contacts at this one.  So again, any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Thanks!  These resources will come in handy for anybody who happens to see this post, I'm sure.  I see several things I'll be implementing on my site really soon.
