Sorry, what is AASEW?

AASEW = Apartment Association of Southeastern WI

It's a landlord group focused on networking, legislation, and educational opportunities.

  • Education - Every year, the AASEW puts on the Landlord Bootcamp which aims to educate landlords about various notices and is taught by an attorney.
  • Networking/Education - The AASEW also puts on the Trade Show (typically held at Potowatomi -- had to be canceled for 2020 due to Covid) to help connect landlords to each other and to various vendors that can help their business.
  • Networking/Education - Each month, the AASEW holds meetings to connect landlords to each other and provide an educational topic to help landlords learn.
  • Legislation - AASEW works with lobbyists at the state level to work towards laws don't unfairly favor the tenants. The AASEW also connects with those in the court system and at the local level.

I hope this helps.

@Justin Coleman Your question comes in at good timing. The AASEW is featuring a presentation called "Financing Investment Real Estate in 2021". Check out the Events page on Bigger Pockets or simply visit the AASEW website.

Due to great demand, the AASEW will be offering Attorney Tristan Pettit's Landlord Boot Camp again on Saturday, February 13th, 2021. This is an ONLINE event and can be attended by anyone anywhere in the WORLD!

Thinking about investing in the Milwaukee area (or anywhere in Wisconsin) and want to know the ins and outs about being a landlord? The price of this event will also include a membership to the AASEW, which includes PDF copies of our monthly newsletter.

Enjoy the advantages of the digital format:

  • Attendees will receive a searchable PDF of the training materials.
  • A recording will be available for 14 days after the event so you can re-watch any sections you missed or want additional clarity on.
  • A live Q&A session will be from 5pm - 6pm. An hour of an attorney's time to answer your questions? That's worth the price of admission right there!

Yes I have purchased 2 houses from the city of Milwaukee.

1) Overall it was okay. You need to attend their free landlord class in order to be eligible to buy a property. It can be difficult to get in because it's so popular but if you schedule the class far enough in advance you should be good.

2) For many things, no. Some of their estimates were way too much, and in some cases they estimate the bare minimum and no enough to make things attractive enough for a tenant to rent. It's best to make your own estimates.

3) No.
