I have the opportunity to get into my first house with a partner. Long story short an ex boss of mine who I'm still good friends with owns several rental property....I was talking with him the other day and asked if he would help me get my first property. He said he would if I brought the cash and we can split the profits. Would this approach to investing be a good way to acquire my first property?

David I'am in the same boat as you, Im also a veteren and have looked into a VA loan myself. If you qualify its a great way to start out in REI. The thing is with a VA loan is that you have to live in the dwelling you purchase for atleast two years. What other investors on here have suggested to me is to buy a duplex and rent out one side. Your tenants will cover your mortgage and you should still be able to clear a profit.

Hi biggerpockets community,

Im not a real estate investor yet, but plan on investing as soon as I finish college and I hear a lot about Renters Warehouse on tv and radio. Has anyone used them to manage any of their properties? Was it a good experience? Would anyone recommend them for a first time investor?

Thanks,

Dean

Ok, so I'm still in college but I know I want to get into real estate, either while I'm still in college or once I get out. Now I know it can be a challenge to get capital from banks when your a new investor, but there has to be some things I can do now to help my chances later down the road of getting a loan. I'm also a veteran so I think the first time I get a loan I would go the VA loan approach. Also, could someone please explain how getting a property under contract works? I hear a lot about that on here and if i'm understanding correctly, it doesn't cost any money to the person who successfully gets a property under contract. Thanks Everyone!

So I have been on bigger pockets now for a couple months, and I absolutely am obsessed with real estate and everything it has to offer. I currently go to college in Minnesota, I'm from here and its been a great experience. I took some time off to enlist in the Minnesota National Guard to help pay for school which has helped out but not like I thought it would. I also did a tour overseas, so here I'am today 23 and still in school. I have some debt not a lot though and I'm just trying to figure out what my first step would be in owing some real estate? I feel it's difficult since I don't have a  lot of money to begin with and I already have some debt.

New Investor here. Being that I'm a junior in college and do not have a bank account with several zeros attached to it and a credit score similar to gas prices. The purpose of this post is to reach out to the community in hopes of getting solid information about wholesaling. Such as, How to find a deal? What legalities do I need to be aware of? Also, how to find a buyer?
