I wanted to take a moment to just say how thankful I am for bigger pockets! In June 2018, my husband and I read Rich Dad Poor Dad and like many others on BP it changed the way we viewed money and made us get excited about our future. We started listening to BP religiously and spent ever night talking about the endless possibilities in real estate. By Sept, we bought our first investment property- Occupied duplex. With it being occupied on both sides it helped us learn more about real estate as we earned money at the same time. We hired a property management company since my husband and I had full time 9-5 jobs and two young kids. We were so excited about the real estate we partnered with a family friend to purchase and rehab SFH for 60k in March 2019. We found a contractor through friends and followed the BP model. Whenever we ran into any issues I went to BP for advice and tips. By June 1st it was leased and ready to go. We plan to do cash-out refinance after 6 months and do it again.

I wanted to share my story to just encourage anyone that’s thinking about investing in real estate. It’s not easy and many days I doubted myself. Once you buy your first investment home you will see what everyone is talking about. Get out of your head and just do it!!

Thank you BP for all your help. I’m already looking for my next property!

@Kelly Garrison have you invested in Paris, TX? Looks like there are a lot of deals. I’m thinking about expanding my portfolio there.

Hi, my husband and I recently purchased 2 duplexes in the north Texas area under our names. We are wondering if we should put the leases under our LLC as a way to protect ourselves? Is there any tax benefits for leaving the leases under our name or LLC. We are brand new to this and bigger pockets’ podcast and this forum has made a huge impact on our lives and changing the trajectory of our future. Cheers to more rentals and possible flips. Thank you in advance for your advice.
