Michael, not that I know of.  Many are entry level or beginners courses.  Though they may require some basic knowledge of algebra or math skills.  They usually mention this in the introduction. Many are also self paced, so you can do them in your free time (on weekends. I'm well aware that your lessons and homework will take up most of the week. Also, a good knowledge of Excel and other such tools would be helpful.  I have taken some recently on finance and contracts, the instructions are easy to follow. They also have forums for the students, there you can post any questions and some one will reply.  My favorite is edX.com. but there are others. Wish you the best.

I don't know if this will help, but there are many free or low cost online courses that could be useful.  I would try to learn as much as I can about finance and contracts. These courses offer certificates, that could be used later.  I also agree that opening a CD is a good idea... the interest is a bit better than a regular savings or checking account.  Also, even though you may not be allowed to attend meetings, you could arrange to chat with someone using Skype or some other platform.  My youngest son met someone who was an expert in the stock market and agreed to be his mentor.  No cost.   Don't under  estimate a college education, people will take you more seriously if you have a degree than if you don't.  Also, make as many contacts as possible.

HI,

I just read this article about a real estate scam in Detroit, Mi.  I thought I'd share it to warn anybody.

It is sad that these issues give a bad impression on honest investors.

In any online forum or discussion group, there are two kinds of members, the active members and the lurkers.  Those who just like to follow.  Often time, while looking for answers, I'll find them already posted.  Since, I also moderate a special interest group,  I can relate to having to read or post the same thing over and over again.  As a new member of BP,  I realize that sometimes the posts don't relate to my needs... each case is different.

That's what we thought.  The house is in Detroit.  I am from that area and know the problems.  I

do believe that everything is for a reason... and I'll eventually find a good house in a good location.

Just yesterday, I noticed a new listing of a beautiful duplex, one of the older houses which I fell in love with.  Unfortunately, it was not in a good location, so we hesitated..... who would want to rent it ?  Well, I saved it any ways just in case... only to learn just now, that it was sold.  I guess somebody saw a good deal.

Thanks for your reply Kurt.  I'll keep these things in mind.  I'll have to do a lot of research then, before deciding.

Hi,

I was just wondering, would buying a condo or an apartment for income be a good idea? I'm aware of HOA fees. I also realize that it would mostly depend on the subdivision. The cities I'm interested in are Troy, St. Claire Shores and Lansing.

I just recently learned that a Kroger Supermarket is opening in Southgate, MI. Since I am from that area, I am keen on investing there. I grew up there and know it well. I was wondering if this would be a good place to invest in senior housing, since having this close by would be an advantage for older people as they wouldn't have to go far to shop. There are many nice affordable houses near by as well as MFR.

I just recently sold my dad's house and my share of the money will go toward this investment.  We'll be ready to begin financially by this time next year.
