Post: Detroit Michigan - Ann Arbor Michigan / Surrounding

I lived in Lincoln Park,MI till I was 15.  Detroit was my "playground" growing up.  We'd take the bus to downtown and shop, go to the theatre, the Auto Show, ball games...   Both my grandfather and father worked there.  But that was long time ago.  I don't think that the problem is with the city itself, but those that live there.  Mostly, lower income.  There might be a problem collecting rents.   That doesn't mean all areas are like that.... just be careful of neighborhoods.  There are lots of beautiful buildings there... old MFH.  Detroit has been through a lot, but has always come back.... in its own way, in its own time.

HI,

Just wanted to post about a book that I think would be interesting. It's not directly related to REI, but goes a long way in explaining how and why platforms like BP as well as others that we use work and the way they have changed life as we know it.

"New Power: How Mass Participation is Changing the World" Jeremy Heimans, Russell Brand   (There are other similar titles by same authors as well.  )

Try to listen to at least one a day.  I upload them on my cell phone and listen while doing housework.  Sort of mutlitasking.  While not all are relevant, there is a lot of usefull information.  I love listening and learning from other investors' experience and the enthusiasm is contagious.  (I have read David's book too.)

From what I have read on local news sites and on comments on the city's Facebook page.... it has to do with organic matter coming from Lake Adrian.  Since demand was high in the warm months, and the water level was low, they had to supplement the water supply with water from the lake.  Algae has also been found.   The EPA tested it and said it was safe to drink... it just has a funny taste.  I can relate to that... we've had that problem all summer, more demand for water and lack of rain fall, lead to low water levels and we had to use a filter.  I have noticed that a lot of new construction going on there.  New houses, which are being sold fast.

Hello again,

My question this time is- if water quality should be an issue when investing in property?  The reason I'm asking is that I have read that in Adrian, MI they have a problem with the water.   I know that in many rural areas there are wells.  Personally, I have no problem with this, since I once lived on a farm where we drank well water.. till the city connected the villages with the water supply.  Would future tenants have a problem with that?

Hi ,

When looking for professionals, such as property managers,  is something like Yelp a good place to start as far as choosing one. Also, is it better to find a firm that has everyone under one roof, or chose each yourself? That is if you know where to begin.

Thanks Kerry,

We're looking for a MFH in that area.  We plan to be in the area around April/May.  Keep in touch.

Hi,

I just noticed that a house we liked had its status changed to "unconditionally withdrawn". Does that mean it's off market?  Can an

offer still be made on it, and how would this affect the sale?   Who withdraws it, the seller or the real estate agent?  Why?
