Hey everyone!

Here's my situation: I have one more year left at The Ohio State University before I graduate. After graduation, it's very likely that I will be going to grad school for 2 more years, and that will likely be in Indiana (my home state).

As far as my experience in REI goes, I'm trying to get started. I've read 4 great real estate books, taken tons of notes, and listened to several podcasts here on BP. But I haven't done my first deal yet, and when I do, it's going to have to be with little to no money down.

My question is, what should I invest my time in this year while I'm at OSU? Should I just continue to work on building my knowledge base? Should I look to invest here in Columbus? Or should I look to invest back home in Indiana? Or something else?

Any help/recommendations would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks guys.

@Ti Jackson

It's awesome to hear from someone my age! Haha I'm excited for your future, I'm sure it's bright. I love your story about you went to go get your license, I might just do that in the near future. I'm about to go into my last year as an undergrad at OSU, and honestly college is kind of a downer on my real estate dreams haha. SO MUCH DEBT! But I love that you have a plan and that you're motivated to succeed, and also that you have an interest in investing; that's hard to find among our peers. So I appreciate that.

I'd love to hear more about your story! Let me know if you're going to college, what the process of getting your realty license was like, how much money you plan to save before getting started, etc. Hopefully we can learn from each other and bounce some ideas back and forth!

By the way, I just finished my first book on real estate investing called The Millionaire Real Estate Investor, and it was GREAT. So I highly recommend that one along with Rich Dad Poor Dad if you're into reading.

Look forward to connecting with you some more, and thanks for the encouragement!

@Account Closed

Glenn, I appreciate you taking time out of your day to give me some encouragement! I love my experience on BP so far and looking forward to all the knowledge I will be able to gain on the site.

Also, I see you are from Noblesville! I'm from the Arcadia/Cicero area and I graduated from Hamilton Heights, so it's cool that you are so close. I'm about to enter my final year at Ohio State, but maybe sometime when I come home, we can meet up and talk a little bit? I would love to have the opportunity to learn from you and hear about your experiences. Coffee/dinner is on me.

Thanks again!!

@Mark Nolan

 Hey Mark! I have been listening to several of the podcasts and they are definitely reaffirming your insights. Thank you for taking the time to provide me with some encouragement, it is much appreciated. See you around BP!

@Shawn Holsapple

Hey Shawn! Nice to connect with someone from my home state! I'm from the Cicero/Noblesville area just north of Indy. Currently at school at The Ohio State University.

First off, thanks so much for sharing your story! What a nice way to get started, and a very interesting one at that. Congrats on that deal! I have a feeling you have conducted many more successful deals since then.

Also, thank you so much for the recommended reading! I'm huge into reading right now, and I'll definitely check out your suggestions. I've read Rich Dad Poor Dad before and loved it, and I've also read the beginner's guide here on BP. Took a whole lot of notes!

Again thanks for your encouragement, and I wish you the best!

@Rachelle Rodavia

Hi Rachelle! Just wanted to say a quick thank you for your encouragement! It is very much appreciated, and I wish you the best as well.

@Justin Whitfield

 Thanks for sharing your story! I'm happy to hear you got such a great deal, and it's great that you had the courage to take that first leap of faith.

As far as my background, I honestly don't have any background in real estate or construction. I got interested in investing about a year ago, and just recently finished my first book about real estate investing called "The Millionaire Real Estate Investor" ( I highly recommend it). But that's about the extent of my knowledge, so I'm brand new to the game.

I'm about to graduate from OSU in another year, and probably go to grad school in another state, so I'm really torn on where I should buy my first investment.

Hey everyone! I'm a young investor with not a whole lot of capital, but I would love to get started as soon as possible. Anyone want to share their "How I Got My First Deal" story with me? I would love to hear about them and learn from all of you.
