Hey everyone,
We found a few companies that are actually a little cheaper and have better reviews. We’re getting some estimates tomorrow.
I’m not sure about confronting him. If he ever asks about why he didn’t hear from me I’ll tell him why. I’m going to simply be fair and honest to my tenants (and obviously respectful) and hopefully that will offset his mentality and actions a little.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I grew up in a house where everyone was equal and important. That’s why my wife and I are frustrated.
I’ll keep searching.
I’m sure there are plenty of “bad” people in every industry, but I can’t openly support someone who acts and talks like that.

Hey there,
I want to build a fence around my owner occupied fourplex. I watched a neighbor put up a beautiful 6’ privacy fence and hoped the contractor would put up a sign. They did so I called it. He came out and gave us an estimate of $25 per linear foot, which I thought was high until I got two more estimates.
So we want to go with him, but out of the blue he starts talking about how he has a few rentals and “doesn’t rent to black(people)” and uses “(racial slur) migrant laborers”.
Would you go with the cheapest/strongest contractor or pay more money for moral reasons? I’m really struggling. The right thing and the practical thing aren’t the same in my mind. Thank you!

@John Mocker
I talked to the old owner. He said the work was done by a licensed company, but the contractor that did the work said he wasn’t licensed. Are there rules against using unlicensed contractors for work like that on rental housing? Thank you!

@Daniel Cullen thanks! I’ll look at Lowe’s and see if they have that. You’d think he would do the bare minimum.

@Devin Gordon we have what we think is causing the leaks. I’ve had a few contractors come to the same conclusion. It seems to be seeping over the gutter and behind the siding. I will!

@Mary Mitchell my insurance said it’s a preexisting condition and they won’t cover it.
The moisture and mold were present on the interior side of the wall once we walked in. Should the inspector know when vinyl siding is installed incorrectly? I had no idea when I did the walk around but I’m not a professional.

@Mark Fries I wouldn’t say panic attack. I’m annoyed but this isn’t the first property I’ve bought. I’ve gotten about 3 estimates and waiting on the fourth guy.
I took the drywall off and the whole wall is soaked through. I wish I could post pictures on here.

@Mary Mitchell it was installed in 2014 according to the seller. He said they were a licensed company but I talked with the guy he referred me to and they’re not licensed or a company.

@Renee Tepper I thought about it. I heard normally that doesn’t work but it’s worth a shot I guess.
