contractor is almost done with the half-bathroom.  and I notice the vanity contractor picked out (probably the cheapest) didn't have any lip.    I tried to wash my hands carefully, water still splash on the wall.

I am thinking doing this myself, has anyone use those stick on backsplash?   or are there better way to address the splash water issue?

@Frank S.

did your use the subs?   Don't use bleach.  store brought (or even vinegar) is good for small job.  Time vs result doesn't workout.

The fan I used is just a blower https://www.amazon.com/Lasko-Pro-Performance-Blowe...

and some house fan.  dehumidifier helps too.

 I have scheduled sandblasting, then boric acid and vinegar spray followed by paint wood joists subfloor below, and Drylok supreme along the foundation wall.

Afterwards, I will encapsulate the floor to block moisture. I will not add insulation to the sub-floor.

Any tips or comments are greatly appreciated.

 "Fun" :(   I had the same problem, had talk with neighbor and he didn't do anything until I put a notice warning him "18-29-1101.2.1 Roof drainage and downspouts" that is pull from Code of Ordinances for Chicago.

my was basement so I just put fans on and let it dry (summer time).  but your case sounds more extensive.   who did you hire?   maybe add vapor barrier on the dirt floor.

@J Scott

how was the closing for the particular closing?   my goes as smooth as I would like.   oh well, next!

unless you are every where (chicago is pretty large) I wouldn't say "no one" pull permits.  maybe it's a location thing ;-)   I do it both way depend on the project.

 I notice some buyer attorney will ask for permit if the house say to be fully gutted rehab.

on the other hand if you are just doing basic kitchen, bathroom... not moving stack.  maybe you can get away without permit.   of course this is a risk as mention by @Eric M. and @Prashanth Mahakali

since you are a contractor make sure you also understand your own risk if your project is issued stop order.

I noticed simplisafe is also the podcast sponsor for a few months  http://simplisafepockets.com/ I guess this post is an example how to use it!  I do wish they could  figure out security camera feature.

thanks for giving us inside glance "reality" scripted show :) when I tell people what I do for fun, they think of HGTV or some flip show.  I had to explain it's not that exciting, the less drama the more profit :)

@John Weidner  @David Begley  want to thank everyone for posting.  I had to do the cost effective way (I don't mean cheap, but within reason).   with the $ and time spend on putting things back I don't want to do it again.

Yes, bad guy(s) came back but we were ready.

few things were done ...

1) stopped by and spoke to both side of the neighbor, just to let them made aware of situation.    Who knows if they knew the player but just to bring things up to the front.

2) add motion light in the back.

3) simplisafe

Here was what went on, around 6:30 PM the back door sensor was triggered and my phone got txt alert, right after that I got call from Simplisafe's call center.    While on the phone with Simplisafe I received another txt alert on motion sensor, so it seems like someone is moving around.   Police was called and they open the front door about 15 minute later.   They did see some damage to the backdoor lock, so the police ask me (owner) to stopped by.

Police was two blocks away when they got the call so they just drove with light on and they said neighbor did tell them someone was at the backdoor.  Of course by that time the bad guy(s) were long gone.

No damage was done to the inside, just the door.     now all I need is to sell this!!

@John Weidner  good idea on light.   I broght timer from HD.   Yes we are friendly with neighbors.  Our contractor help next door clean the gutter while he had the long ladder out.
