@Jagnoor Gill you should do both. Reading about REI will help you to become more knowledgeable and be able to ask better questions to investors. Continue to read, listen to audiobooks & podcasts and network with others who are in REI.

Brother, your are absolutely right. The market in Toronto is too expensive to invest. But you don’t know my background. I am from india and moving to canada as a immigrant . I applied in many colleges in canada but none of them send me the Offerletter. However, only one collage accepted my application and that is canadore collage in Brampton ( near Toronto) . So my future plan is after completing my two year course in business i will definitely move to another city with favorable market to invest.

I am 19 years old and very passionate about real estate. I am going to canada (toronto) for my further education in business. So i am unable to purchase any property for next 2-3 years . So, what should i do till next 3 years to keep me engaged with real estate . Should i read books, meet with local investor to gain my knowledge …?

That's like saying "I'm going to the Emerald City of OZ to learn how to play the ukulele". It makes no sense. If you are passionate about real estate you DO real estate ( but not in Toronto, the market is too expensive) you do real estate in your home town or someplace where it makes sense. I think you are actually playing a very poor joke on us. Tell us this is actually a very bad joke, please! (at 19 saying someone is making you go to Toronto is absurd)

Thanks for your great advice. Actually i live in a village and their is no one who is interested in real estate. So, i don’t have community to discuss my ideas and interests. I am moving to canada in next 2 months as a immigrant. So, i hope i will fine some investors and agents .

Amazing! And you are only 19! Congratulations

Books are amazing, podcasts, YouTube everything you can get your hands on but nothing beats real world experience. If I were in your shoes I’d start by connecting with top agents and offering to shadow them in my time off. The right agent will help you connect with investors in your area as well as teach you negotiation skills, how to calculate prices, repair costs and draw up comparables. When you meet an investor you believe you can benefit from offer him/her value in exchange for allowing you to SHADOW them. PLEASE DO NOT JUST APPROACH ONE OF THEM AND SAY “HEY I LOVE REAL ESTATE CAN YOU TEACH ME?” They are very busy people, they don’t have time to sit down and teach you. You learn as you go.

hope this helps :) best wishes
