It does depend on the broker. I think a small mom and pop brokerage would be more okay with you doing that, than a big box brokerage that has a lot more overhead expenses. Also, if you are in the business to make money, why limit yourself to just your personal deals, why not generate additional income by buying and selling for others.

Do a search on Craigslist for furniture. I also provide housing for students and have found quality, gently used furniture there. Look for sellers either moving out of state or out of the country.
