Alexis, Ethan said you don't have to have a live body during normal working hours.  Not to question Ethan, just verify with your state.
The UPS setup is not your address but theirs and the person behind the counter is your representative.  I just used it as an example.  Not all UPS stores do it.  It's the owner of the UPS franchise doing it for additional income.  Not unlike any nick knacks you may see for sale as you enter.

"A resident agent is someone who is appointed by the company to receive any documents, notices, or demands served upon the company. The resident agent must be a Michigan resident, a Michigan corporation, a foreign corporation with a certificate of authority to transact business in Michigan, a Michigan limited liability company or a foreign limited liability company authorized to transact business in this state."

However, I did not realize this was a requirement in some states, so thank you for the tip!

All LLC fun Ethan. LLCs are not a Federally recognize entity. So you have to check state by state. The Single Member deal is changing quickly state by state. Just a few years ago many states would invalidate your separation as to asset protection if there was only one member (husband wife count as one). Seems the states I'm in only changed in the last couple years. I found I wasn't covered in one when I was sent the notice of a change in the law . So I was covered at that point.
I think every state will change.  I think they like the structure and tracking ability the single proprietor setup doesn't allow them, oh and the annual fees (More Grins).

I would wait too.  Your CPA should know what you should do as you describe your intentions.  My wife and I where we have LLCs are considered Single Member.  Good Luck.

That is just new codes.  @William Morrison, That is right, but a lot depends on local jurisdictions. Functionally it will work just fine. Some inspectors will allow it if it only serves the washing machine. At least that is what I have run into. Ideally run it out of the roof, but in an application like this, I would probably just throw a studor on there.

I'm with you Joseph.  In most cases for existing construction you don't have bring up to code.  I might use it too.  Or maybe large deep seal trap at the bottom.  Can't see that part too clear in picture.   The line looks larger under the floor.  The couple places I looked had a process for getting permission from the inspector but that's a pain <Grin>.  All said you want it to work and not stink.  More Grins.
The code issue in some areas can block a sale later.  The fun part of this site is it covers a wide range of place.  Had a friend have to fix plumbing code violations before he could sell.  He lived two blocks from  the Baltimore county line in Baltimore City.  His plumbing met the county requirements but not the city.  It was the type of water supply tubing.  Yeah I helped all night.  <Grin>
The other is the insurance issue.  Out of code installs done by owner or handy man can invalidate your insurance, probably not the case here.  More important in electrical and gas work.
My son lives in your circle of influence Southern Pines, interesting change going on there.

@Alexis S. In Michigan, I believe you can be your own registered agent. I put my own name on that line and it was fine. Also, Article II can be left blank unless you have additional purposes besides the generic purpose already listed. (I'm not positive. This is just how I filled mine out and everything worked out okay.)

Ethan the states I'm in are just as you said, it can be you if you live in the state.  Many do just that ignoring the requirement that you have an office at your address with someone there every day, five days a week during normal business hours.  I have never heard of someone getting in trouble with a single person operation where they are gone during many day.  But it's specifically listed that way as not ok on some state sites.  I think it's only trouble if your being served.
A spouse at home works fine.  But out of state there is no question you need one.  It's basically a UPS store or Mail Boxes etc that can accept legal paperwork.
All fun.

Just checked a couple states, it does not meet code and requires special approval.  Maybe ok in your state though.

I'm with Mike.  No to the ice machine.  And yes to big bad disposal.  Stuff is going down that drain like it or not.  I like it ground up.  <Grin>

Most states require you to either have an address where a live body can receive legal papers served 5 days a week during normal business hours or have a registered agent, not a mail box.  Mine cost about $50 a year.

Interesting read.  How old is the construction?  I ask because if you have no smell you might have a running trap.  They are illegal in most places now along with S traps and certainly in the national codes the local jurisdictions use as models.  (some local exceptions)
The distance of vent from the trap maybe limited by code.  But the function is limited by the diameter of the drain line, the slope and the length of the drop (added velocity=greater siphon).  The depth of the trap (a deep seal trap) can help.  Like the trap on your AC's condensate drain, the depth determines how much negative or positive pressure it can handle before it siphons completely.
Bottom line you should have a trap.

Susan, as some have said you can do it on line.
You will or should know how you expect to be taxed. You have two basic choices. An LLC is not a Federal classification. Each state defines them differently.
As a disregarded entity you would want to know.
If it's a Single Member LLC you may have a few more issues.
