Meet in person. That way they see you and understand you aren't a threat. Take it from there. Listen to them.  Make sure they feel heard and assure them you will do in your power what you can do to make sure they are safe. Communication is the key. It will get better. They fixed the door? Wouldn't do that if it weren't legitimate.

Hello.  I currently have a single family rental here in Indy (since 2019) and looking to network and learn more on multi-family commercial investing before making the leap.  I'm seeking to be in an environment with like minded individuals to learn and network to grow my portfolio and eventually network to collaborate on larger deals once I have a better understanding of the commercial side.  Any information on local clubs I could join that have this kind of environment would be appreciated.
