@Nicole Petrak That sounds great! I've already PM'd you more details about a group I'm trying to put together. Looking forward to exchanging experiences/thoughts/knowledge!
@Suda Srinivasan I worked with Norada Real Estate, who then referred me to providers that worked in the respective real estate markets. Out of respect for Norada's business model, I won't really divulge who their partners are unless called out.
As for whether to do turnkey vs hiring it out and building your own team... I think it's a matter of how much time you want to invest. I run a busy schedule and had extra capital, so getting my feet wet with turnkey made sense to me. Bear in mind, I actually did not find out about Bigger Pockets until after I read Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate by Brian H Murray - by that time, I was already in contract to purchase my Indianapolis property!
I would say there is a pretty good podcast from David Greene on this subject, and he is largely against turnkey properties. Personally, I want to jump into commercial real estate next as I build up my network of partners/providers and others on BP.

This is a controversial topic to which I have heard much advice. I suggest you also read up on my BP post
here.
With that said, I would seek professional advice from both in state CA firms as well as out of state firms, weigh the pros and cons of each, and also the direction with which you want to take to build your business.

I purchased my first turnkey property in Indianapolis, Indiana and I have my second turnkey in Oklahoma. I'd like to meet/network with ya'll as well and I am located in the Berkeley, CA area and I work in downtown San Francisco.
I'm gathering emails to organize a group of folks interested in meeting (looking for a small group of <= 10 to join). Message me if you're interested.

Just wanted to close the loop on this thread that I did seek my 3rd consultation with a lawyer and received the same advice from my previous consultations. Keeping everyone's advice in mind, I have made up my mind on what entity structure I will pursue given the information I have and the businesses I plan to operate.
Cheers.

Hi All,
I'm looking to network and meetup with folks in the Bay Area as well who invest out of state. I'm in Berkeley, CA and I work in SF during the week.
Cheers!

Hi All,
I just started out a few months ago and I wanted to connect with locals in the area who mostly invest out of state in single family and multi family homes. My goal in the next year is to move from single families to the multi-family space, and then quickly to the commercial apartment space.
If you're willing to chat, meetup for a drink, or let me know about other meetups in the area (San Francisco/East Bay), then hopefully we can meet and exchange information, build partnerships/friendships, and build towards our financial freedom.
Cheers.

I've heard a few podcasts here or elsewhere on how entrepreneurs with barely any money in their pockets made their first deal with no money down or built up their portfolios with barely much to start.
Read the blog posts on Bigger Pockets, and listen to as many podcasts as you can. I listen to podcasts during my commute and in the home. At this stage, I understand your eagerness to start, but educate yourself first.
Good luck!

2,300 miles to one property, and 1600 miles to another.

I'm going to have a consultation with another legal group who do both taxes and legal work. Call is scheduled for next week. FYI, both consultations I've had so far are from well known entities mentioned on these forums.
Regarding the advice given so far, do y'all live and invest in California and invest in real estate out of state?
