+1 @Darren McGillvrey

I've seen new foundations that are more than an inch out. It could have been that way from the get go, especially on an old house.

Horizontal cracks are not the best, but like was stated previously, watch it and keep it under finger width. You could buy a laser level for around a hundred bucks and check it once a year for movement.

As far as resell, if you disclose the engineer signed off on it, I can't imagine that would hold up a sale. I've seen far worse fly right through on sales.

@Jason Hirko I had that thought as well, but my real estate agent said since it's an REO property, they don't actually have to disclose it to future offers. They just say "as is", your problem.

Maybe that is just a Washington thing, I thought they'd have to disclose it. Seems unethical if you have a test showing its presence.

@Jason Hirko I've gotten an estimate for removal, and replacing with new. All in I'm looking at adding 7k which doesn't make or break the job, so maybe that's the way to go, but I would obviously rather pocket that money.

As a side note I knew an elderly gentleman that said when he worked on ships, he and his co-workers would have asbestos snowball fights.😳

@Jim Adrian So even if I never get it tested, I would need to disclose that it possibly might have asbestos siding? Thanks for the advice.

Hi everyone, first post, love all the info everyone is so generous in offering here. I'm in negotiations with a bank on a property in Camas WA. It appears as if the siding may be asbestos. It is in good shape generally, but there are a few pieces missing. I've done some research and found some non asbestos pieces to weave in where necessary. Also I need to move one door on the exterior and replace the windows. I'm doing the work myself and the house is in my name. My question is if I fix these areas will I kick a hornets nest when I go to sell? Thanks in advance! P.s. Vinyl siding is no good in this area and I would still need to replace the windows anyway.
