Liandra B., that COULD be a good first step. If you understand how to analyze properties and you acquire a good deal, that could be a very good way to start real estate investing. However, that means you need to understand the concepts involved (how to estimate rehab costs, how to determine ARV, etc).

Welcome to BP Orvil and congrats on your first deal. I think that owner-occupying a duplex is a great way to start! I would recommend staying active on the forums, I found I learned a lot more and made a lot more connections that way.
Don't forget to upload a profile picture and let us know if you can't find what you are looking for. Good luck!

Welcome to BP Jon. Its great to see someone interested in real estate at such a young age. When I was graduating HS I had no clue what a note was! I would recommend you read the Ultimate Beginner's Guide, it is a great free resource for BP members and gives a nice overview.
There are some note investors here who can help you along the way, so if you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask! Good luck!

The wholesaling forums are great and have a ton of information, especially marketing related that can help you right away. If you haven't yet, spend some time reading those threads.

You also need to consider which strategy best fits your personal situation. Some things to consider are:
- Do you have good credit and the ability to borrow from traditional lenders?
- Do you have cash to be used for down payments on property purchases?
- Do you have or potentially have access to other funds (family or friends who might be interested)?
- What personal skills do you possess that can help you in real estate investing?
- Do you have friends or family members with experience in real estate?
Based on these and other considerations you need to figure out which route will be best for you.

Welcome to BP Liandra. That is a pretty open ended question you are asking but hopefully I will give you some things to think about. The first thing you need to do is figure out what your goals are. Real estate investing is great because there are a ton of options, but to choose the right path you need to know what your goals are.
I would start by learning about the different real estate investing strategies, the Ultimate Beginner's Guide is a great place to start.
Once you know where you want to go and how you think you can get there you can start devising a plan of action.

If you haven't yet make sure you check out the Ultimate Beginner's Guide, it is a great free resource.
