I have been hosting these meetups for the last 2 years on the 2nd Thursday of every month, the next one is this coming Thursday! It's usually an informal networking event for local investors, contractors architects and anyone interested in real estate to meet like minded people and learn from each other. Once a quarter we have a speaker come and educate the group on an interesting topic.

Congrats on this new chapter in Life Benjamin. Let's connect! I house hacked in 2021 (built 2 ADUS in Ventura) which helped me buy and launch an Airbnb (in Ventura as well) in last year. I've been running a meetup in this year since 2022 when I figured people like us just need to share our stories and learn from each other. I'm a W2 employee and not a relator so the meetup is not pitching any products or trying to sell you a course, it's a way to network!   

PS: I'm a Host camper too ;) and the meetup is 2nd Thursday of every month.

Can you believe it's already January 31st. I feel like January flew by... nonetheless I hope we've all acclimated to 2024 and are fine tuning our investment strategies for this year. At the last meetup I had a few of y'all ask about the STR market specifically about the management vs cash flow perspective of this kind of investment.

As such I thought it'd be a great opportunity to get someone well versed in that market to come share his experience with us and answer some of our burning questions.

Hey Allan,
As someone mentioned the better option out of the 2 totally depends on cash flow v/s appreciation preferences. But it seems like you have a W2 as a PT in which case I'd suggest the investing in your backyard option (I love Ventura County and am a strong advocate for it). Obviously in today's RE landscape it's difficult to find a deal that will cash flow here but if you factor in the tax write off's from depreciation and try a forced appreciation play (ADU, R@/R3-5 zoning ) it totally makes sense! Your W2 can provide you the monthly cash flow while your portfolio can provide you the networth. Stack a few of these properties strategically and you might be able to fulfill your dream (and mine too) of retiring early.
