Hey Noah!

I was in a similar situation as you. My first advice is don't quit your job unless you absolutely hate it. You're in a great field and you can save a ton of money by working and living at home. You can then use this money you save for a down payment on a multi-family home. Fannie Mae just introduced a new 5% down payment for multifamily homes which I think is a great opportunity.

I'm originally from Beacon and I invest in Poughkeepsie. I currently live in NYC attending business school. I own flips and do rentals all in the Poughkeepsie area.

You're on the right track just keep educating yourself and when it's time to pull the trigger on your first deal you'll be ready.

Any other questions feel free to PM me.

Kevin

Great advice - thanks so much for the input Kevin! How is the market in Poughkeepsie for MFHs?

it's great. lot of people still want to be within commuting distance of the city. hospitals, colleges, etc too so its great.

Thanks Kevin for sharing the perspective

If targeting marist (4 bed, 2 bath) duplex do you think I can estimate $3k/month conservatively?

yes but i dont know of any students that live in that development. it might be better as a ltr at 1500-1600 a month each unit

Hi Kevin

Do you recommend Poughkeepsie for short term rentals?

What is the suitability for something like this property for either STR or LTR?

I own a three family a few houses down. Taxes are cheap in area which is nice. Might be able to rent to college kids or nurses for 700-800 per room although it isnt a desirable area. Ltr wise you could probably get 2-2.2k. Maybe a little more if you’re patient. Houses closer to vassar and marist get almost 900-1000 per room utilities included.

little high imo especially if you mean the city of poughkeepsie. you may be able to get those prices if they are newly renovated and you wait a while for qualified applicants. i'd knock off 100-200 on each
